Stones With A Human Heart
Stones with a human heart
About the Initiative
The “Stones With a Human Heart” project began at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the goal of fostering broad social solidarity and strengthening our shared sense of collective destiny.
The project was created to express unity and identification with bereaved families who, during that time, were unable to visit the graves of their loved ones.
Volunteers from across Israel placed decorated river stones bearing messages of love and support on the graves of fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the State of Israel.
Since its founding, the project has become deeply meaningful for bereaved families and has grown into a social force that supports healing within Israeli society—bringing hearts closer together, mending divisions, and promoting the values of unity, mutual responsibility, and fellowship. At the same time, it conveys a clear message to bereaved families: they are not alone, and their personal loss is shared by all of us as a people standing with them.
On the most recent Memorial Day, approximately 100,000 decorated stones were placed in cemeteries.
We invite you to join us by decorating a stone with love in memory of fallen IDF soldiers and in support of their families. If desired, project volunteers will place the stone on your behalf.
In the days leading up to the evening of Memorial Day 2025, approximately 100,000 decorated river stones were placed in cemeteries across the State of Israel, on the graves of fallen IDF soldiers and victims of terror attacks.
Thousands of volunteers from across the country took part with dedication, driven by a deep sense of mission and gratitude toward the heroes who gave their lives.

Our organization supports bereaved families throughout the year, and especially on Memorial Day.
This year, following the massacre in southern Israel on October 7 and the outbreak of the Iron Swords War, thousands of families have tragically been added to the circle of bereavement. Our goal this Memorial Day is to place 100,000 decorated river stones in cemeteries across the country.
To achieve this, we need you.
Join us and take part in a meaningful and moving initiative in support of bereaved families, in memory of fallen IDF soldiers and victims of terror attacks. We are seeking many volunteers to partner with us in the weeks leading up to Memorial Day and during the day itself.
Volunteers will coordinate activities across the country, decorate stones according to various requests, and place them on the graves of fallen IDF soldiers and victims of terror attacks in cemeteries throughout Israel.
Businesses are invited to purchase a dedicated “station,” which includes a sack of river stones, permanent markers, black table covers, Israeli flags, and memorial candles.
Company employees will be invited to decorate the stones, and at the conclusion of the activity, coordination will take place with a volunteer coordinator to schedule the collection of the stones and their placement in cemeteries across the State of Israel.
